BIT DEPTH
Quantization resolution — controls noise floor character and distortion type

Reducing bit depth from 24-bit to 8 or 12 bits generates quantization noise at approximately −6 dB × bit depth (so 8-bit yields roughly −48 dBFS noise floor vs. −144 dBFS for 24-bit).
